Proposed reforms could make stamp duty land tax a ‘seller’s tax’
Daily Telegraph, 23 January 2018: Conservative MP John Stevenson will make the case for reforms to transform stamp duty land tax into a ‘seller’s not a buyer’s tax, to kick-start the housing market and give a boost to first-time buyers.
Stevenson said the proposals would not lead to sellers simply bumping up the price of houses to cover the tax. A survey on the topic found 60% of renters said this would help them get on the housing ladder.
